How to Make Weed Hot Chocolate Using Edibles
What says it’s the holiday season more than a big cup of hot chocolate? This classic cold-weather drink is perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth and for adults who like to have a good time. You may know adult hot chocolate as referring to hot cocoa with booze, but we’re going to switch it up and show you how to make weed hot chocolate using edibles instead. It’s an alcohol-free drink that is sure to elevate this December.
Weed hot chocolate ingredients
Making infused hot chocolate is not much different from making regular hot chocolate. The addition of chocolate edibles makes it incredibly easy, tasty, and fun to make. Just follow a few easy steps and you’ll have a delicious drink to warm you up this December.
Here’s what you’ll need to make two servings:
- 2 cups milk (regular or non-dairy)
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp sugar
- ¼ cup chopped cannabis chocolate bar
- ⅛ tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: whipped cream and crushed candy canes to top
The exact measurements may vary based on your preferences. If it would take too much cannabis chocolate to reach ¼ cup, add as much infused chocolate as you want for your dose and fill the rest with chocolate chips or a regular chocolate bar.
Weed hot chocolate steps
The steps to make infused hot chocolate are minimal. You’ll be enjoying a tasty treat in no time. Here’s what you need to do:
- Add your milk, cocoa powder, and sugar to a saucepan
- Heat over medium heat, whisking frequently
- When warm, not boiling, slowly add in your chocolate bar (and chocolate chips if using) and whisk constantly until they have evenly melted into the drink
- Whisk in vanilla extract
- Pour in a cup and serve
- Optional: top with whipped cream and sprinkle with crushed candy canes
Take your time as you make this weed hot chocolate. The longer you heat up your milk at a lower temperature, the better the overall product will be.
It’s crucial to not burn the weed chocolate bar as this can break down the compounds and diminish the effects. Plus, burnt chocolate just tastes bad. Regardless of if there’s weed in it, it’s never advised to heat chocolate at home on a high setting.
If your drink doesn’t taste chocolatey enough, add more cocoa powder or chocolate chips. Do not continue to add more weed chocolate if you have already dosed out your cup.
Chocolate bars for infused hot chocolate
This is a fun recipe because you can play with it to find your favorite flavor combination. Try swapping out the milk with coconut milk for a deep, nutty flavor. Or add peppermint extract to the mix for an extra holiday kick. The opportunities are endless.
Our Fitchburg dispensary has many options for infused chocolate, adding another opportunity for creativity. Here are our top picks for making weed hot chocolate:
S’mores chocolate bars are the natural top choice for making this special hot chocolate. They’re packed with dehydrated marshmallows, graham crackers, and plenty of cannabis oil. As you chop up the chocolate bar, you can choose to avoid sections with graham crackers if you don’t want little floaties in your drink. Coast bars are made with only organic, fair trade, ethically sourced chocolate direct from South America. Coast handcrafted bars deliver a consistent experience while preserving the chocolates’ high-quality flavor and texture. You can really taste and feel the difference when you enjoy Coast chocolate! (Please note, all COAST chocolate bars contain milk). Not a fan of S’mores chocolate bars? We carry a wide variety of COAST chocolate bars at our Fitchburg dispensary, like Cookies & Cream, Dark Chocolate Raspberry, and Key Lime Pie White Chocolate.
Salted caramel hot chocolate? Count us in.
This chocolate bar made with pure ivory chocolate is guaranteed to elevate your next cup of hot cocoa. It’s decadent, mouthwatering, and sure to satisfy. Caramel and chocolate are a heavenly combination and Insa has nailed the art of pairing the two. Insa sourced special caramel white chocolate from Europe for its unique caramel color and flavor. Made with pure ivory chocolate that is caramelized during the conching process (mixing process at high heat) to bring out the natural color and flavor of salted caramel. They then infuse this special chocolate with crunchy bits of salted caramel sugar for a pleasant crunch!
Alternative recipe for weed hot chocolate
If you don’t want to melt weed chocolate in your cup of hot cocoa, you can use this alternative method to infuse your hot drink.
Follow the same recipe as above, but replace melting the chocolate bar with melting regular chocolate chips into the drink. You can also melt a regular, non-infused chocolate bar into the milk instead. No cannabis will go into the drink itself.
Here’s where the weed comes in: Top your hot chocolate with a generous amount of whipped cream and sprinkle with as much chopped or crushed infused chocolate as you’d like. We recommend the Dark Chocolate Mint Cookie Crunch Bar from 253 Pharmacy, as a topping because it has crunchy cookie bits that pair well with airy whipped cream. Sprinkle some crushed candy canes on top as well to really elevate your toppings.
Be careful drinking cannabis
If you’re not big on using edibles, make sure to start with a low dose of THC in your hot chocolate. You can always drink more or add more infused chocolate later, but you can’t undo drinking too much from the start.
This cannabis beverage will work just like an edible. Expect effects to come on anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours after consumption. Effects will also last much longer than if you were to smoke or vape weed, so be sure to plan accordingly.
While this tasty drink may be tempting to refill when the cup gets low, you’ll want to pay attention to how much THC you consume if you have seconds. If you plan to drink more than one cup, be sure to split your desired dose across the drinks so you don’t end up too high and uncomfortable.
